IMAGE COMICS [Previews]: The Divided States of Hysteria / Grrl Scouts / Winnebago Graveyard / Paklis.

An America sundered.
An America enraged.
An America terrified.
An America shattered by greed and racism, violence and fear, nihilism and tragedy…
…and that’s when everything really goes to hell.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that this June, creator Howard Chaykin (BLACK KISS, SATELLITE SAM) will deliver THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA—a pulls-no-punches, dystopic suspense story about the dramatic downfall of the most formidable and globally far-reaching government the world has ever seen.

In THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA, a deeply troubled America is barely beginning to recover from a profound national trauma, only to be further destabilized by a worst-case terrorist attack.

Black Kiss was banned in the UK and Canada—The Divided States of Hysteria may very well get me arrested here in the good ol’ USA,” Chaykin said of this raw, uncompromising vision of an all too familiar, all too near future America.

A powerful and profoundly unsettling new series echoing today’s political turmoil and the restlessness of a jaded society, Chaykin’s THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA is poised to upend what readers have come to expect from comics.

THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA #1 hits stores on Wednesday, June 7th.

Image Comics is pleased to announce Jim Mahfood (Tank Girl, Clerks) has come home to creator-owned comics for the first time in years with the glorious return of GRRL SCOUTS, set to hit shelves this May.

“Working on Grrl Scouts: Magic Socks has been an absolute blast for me, the most fun I’ve had doing comics, without a doubt! The freedom that comes as a creator working with Image Comics can’t be matched anywhere else,” said Mahfood. “The end result is, we the creators get to go completely buck wild, have fun, and express ourselves in the purest way possible. And that fun is evident on the printed page. I hope readers will be willing to go on this bizarre and eye-poppin’ adventure with me. This is just the beginning of what I plan to do with the Grrl Scouts comic book universe…”

In GRRL SCOUTS: MAGIC SOCKS, readers join Gwen, Daphne, and Rita as they reunite for a pulse-pounding psychedelic adventure through the streets of Freak City.

This first issue is stuffed to the gills with an action-packed story, bonus art, soundtrack, sketchbook, and a behind-the-scenes commentary. Plus, a variant cover by the one and only Skottie Young (I HATE FAIRYLAND). Pure fun! Pure flavor!

GRRL SCOUTS: MAGIC SOCKS #1 Cover A by Mahfood and Cover B by Young hit stores on Wednesday, May 17th.

“I still remember when the first issue of Grrl Scouts hit. It made me crazy how good it was. The fun of Tank Girl dipped in hash oil and rolled in a classic 007 film. Put on some Bad Brains or Pharcyde and enjoy the great fun.” – Rick Remender

“Jim Mahfood’s work is expressive and intense and crazy and irreverent and fierce and sexy and I love it to death.” – Bill Sienkiewicz

The WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD miniseries — written by Steve Niles with art by Alison Sampson and first announced at Image Expo — promises to take readers on a plot-twisting road trip filled with mystery this June.

In WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD #1, an American family traveling on vacation finds themselves stranded in a small town with a sinister secret.

“It can still make your spine tingle with fear when you’re out on your own looking for help in a hellishly scary place,” said Niles. “Winnebago Graveyard is all about that kind of terror.”

This horror-adventure story about a family stuck on a road trip gone terribly awry is filled with creepy fairgrounds, nefarious characters, seedy conspiracies, towns full of satanists, and a teenager. What else could possibly go wrong?

WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD draws heavily on 1970s horror films, pulling inspiration from America’s dark heart wherever possible. “It’s about 70 percent Americana, slightly heightened, like True Blood, and about 30 percent ripping off of heads,” said Sampson.

Image Comics is pleased to introduce PAKLIS—a new anthology series from writer/artist Dustin Weaver—where the characters in three mind-bending stories find themselves faced with dark, existential questions that will haunt readers.

“My influences on this series range from Kafka to Miyazaki. The Twilight Zone, Aeon Flux cartoons, and the comics of Moebius and Otomo are all major touchstones,” said Weaver.

In “MUSHROOM BODIES,” Greg struggles with knowing what’s real and fears becoming complacent in a world of human insects.

In the first installment of “SAGITTARIUS A*,” war hero Linus Rad is on a mission to the center of the galaxy to learn the dark secrets of his dead father’s scientific experiments.

In the first chapter of “AMNIA CYCLE,” Tara, a young Jet-Wing pilot, goes AWOL in the war against the Nuriel in order to help Amnia, a mysterious alien with no memory of where she came from and a desperate need to stop a terrible disaster! When Amnia disappears, it sends Tara on an adventure into the Shadow Zone.

Step into the unknown. Journey into the shadows. There you’ll find PAKLIS.

PAKLIS #1 hits stores on Wednesday, May 31st.
